  • Game of Thrones has been dropping subtle hints about the Night King’s death that might ruin Jon Snow’s plans for killing him.

  • Mild spoilers/theories below, don’t @ me, you’ve been warned!

Okay, so during Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones, the War Council met around an amusing little table full of adorable action figures and tried to come up with a plan to defeat the army of zombies coming for them, lol. And part of said plan? For Bran Stark to wander off into the forest and lure the Night King to him. Wow, what could possibly go wrong?! I see no flaws!

This plan is allegedly going to work [edit note: There’s no way in hell it’s going to work, RIP everyone] because Bran has been “marked” by the Night King as part of his ultimate goal to destroy human memory...or something. And while you and I both know the plan is a terrible idea, Jon Snow-bless his know-nothing heart-comes up with the bright idea to have the dragons stay near Bran and protect him. And this presumably indicates that he plans to kill the Night King with dragonfire.

Here’s the thing though. As a casual Twitter fan/sleuth notes, Game of Thrones has made a point to show us over and over and over again, albeit subtly and casually, that fire doesn’t kill the Night King. To quote: “Jon’s plan is to keep the dragons hidden near the heart tree so that when they lure the NK to Bran, they can burn him. Bran doubts it’ll work. Unbeknownst to them, the show has made a point of showing us several times that the NK can walk through fire just fine. Even dragonfire.”

Well, sh*t. If the Night King can’t be killed by fire, it looks like dragonglass or Valyrian steel will have to do-which means if he dies, it’ll likely be through hand-to-hand (or sword-to-sword) combat. Er, is now a good time to point out that the Night King’s weapon of choice is a giant spear...much like Arya’s? Just saying.
