May 15—GOSHEN — A vintage automobile once owned by famed aviator Amelia Earhart did a few laps around the runway at Goshen Municipal Airport Wednesday afternoon.

That car, a 1937 Cord, is currently owned by The JBS Collection in Elkhart.

"I believe this is the last car she owned prior to her famous disappearance," said Airport Manager Randy Sharkey.

It is also the subject of the newest documentary film being produced by the Hagerty Drivers Foundation, which hired New York City-based Maestro Productions for the production.

Conor Kelley is director of the film.

"Every year the foundation picks two vehicles to document for inclusion in the Library of Congress for the National Historic Vehicle Registry," Kelley said. "The documentation lives on in perpetuity."

Kelley directs all the documentary films on each vehicle, which are later shared free of charge on YouTube.

According to Brittanica.com, Amelia Earhart was born July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas, and disappeared July 2, 1937, near Howland Island, in the central Pacific Ocean, with Fred Noonan as her navigator, in a twin-engine Lockheed Electra.

"Her disappearance during a flight around the world in 1937 became an enduring mystery, fueling much speculation," the website stated.

Jessica Pontius, of The JBS Collection, drove the car Wednesday for the first time as a part of a film production.

"It puts you back in that era," she said of driving the vintage automobile.

Casey Maxon, senior manager at the Heritage Drivers Foundation, was on hand at the airport for the shoot.

"It's a neat opportunity to have Amelia Earhart's car out on an actual runway as the Hagerty Drivers Foundation documents it for the Library of Congress," he said.

The Cord was also photographed next to an old style C-45 U.S. Air Force plane, and a modern day drone was also used in the production.
