Every '80s kid's favorite movie is back.

“The Goonies” was a 1985 adventure and family film about a group of kids who live in “the Goondocks” — a neighborhood in Astoria, Oregon. The town is being taken over by greedy land developers who are pushing out families and trying to turn the Goondocks into a golf course.

From a story by Steven Spielberg and directed by Richard Donner, the Goonies, a group of friends, band together to save their family homes.

What is the basic storyline of ‘The Goonies?’

In order to gather money, the Goonies follow a treasure map to an underground realm full of dangerous passages, crazy booby-traps and a pirate ship with gold doubloons, gemstones and “rich stuff.”

It’s not all smooth sailing as the friends are being followed by criminals also in pursuit of the treasure. This includes bumbling bad guys, a malevolent mama and Sloth, a “mild-mannered behemoth.”

Where can I watch ‘The Goonies’ in theaters in Phoenix?

“The Goonies” is playing at local AMC and Regal Cinemas. The AMC Ahwatukee 24 and AMC Westgate 20 are showing "The Goonies" from Friday, Sept. 1, to Wednesday, Sept. 6.

AMC showtimes include 3:25 and 9:40 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. and 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, and 5:05 p.m. Wednesday in Ahwatukee. The Westgate AMC has is showing the movie at 3 p.m. Friday through Wednesday.

The Regal Gilbert is showing "The Goonies" from Saturday, Sept. 2, to Tuesday, Sept. 5. Showtimes include 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

How much are tickets for ‘The Goonies?’

At AMC theaters, tickets for “The Goonies” are $5. Regal Cinemas has tickets available for $5.40.

Is ‘Goonies’ on Disney Plus?

A new “The Goonies” series is coming to Disney+ called “Our Time.” The script was originally created by writer Sarah Watson as a pilot for Fox. According to Variety, the drama was about a teacher who aids students in recreating the original movie.

There aren’t many details available on where this show is in production, however.

You can watch the movie on Sling TV and Amazon Prime Video. It’s available for purchase at $3.99 on YouTube, Google Play Movies & TV, Apple TV, Redbox and Vudu.

Are they making a Goonies 2?

There is a hesitancy among "The Goonies" stars to try to replicate the success of the original. Recreating the magic is even more difficult without their director, according to Screen Rant.
