The Good Wife: Does Helen Hunt Regret Turning Down the Role of Alicia? Watch

Julianna Margulies blew our minds a few years ago when she revealed that she wasn’t the first pick to play Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife. And on Thursday’s Watch What Happens Live, one of the actresses who passed on the role was forced to face the weight of her decision.

“Do you ever regret turning down The Good Wife?” a caller asked Helen Hunt during the Bravo talker’s after show, a question that made Hunt visibly uncomfortable — while leaving host Andy Cohen and guest Amanda Peet speechless.

“It obviously was meant to go to the actress that it went to, what with her being brilliant and all,” Hunt answered, adding, “I had a daughter [and] I wanted time with her. What can I say?” Then, after a pause, she (jokingly?) said, “Yes. Yes!”

Still, it sounds like everything worked out for the best: “The most successful things I’ve ever done were turned down by someone else,” Hunt said. “It all happens, hopefully, the way it’s supposed to.”
