Good Morning America is leaving its high-profile studio in New York’s Times Square to a new Walt Disney Co. building in Hudson Square.

Good Morning America is defined by the strength of our team in front of and behind the camera, quality of our reporting, and the long, trusted relationship with our viewers. Moving all ABC News teams to our new state-of-the-art building was a strategic decision that will allow for more collaboration and innovation,” an ABC News spokesperson said in a statement of the move, first reported in the New York Post.

The network plans to continue to use New York City as a set for the broadcast and reporting.

The Hudson Square complex will be the new headquarters for Disney, and the move is planned for 2025.

GMA moved to Times Square in 1999, and the location has featured numerous musical and Broadway performances just outside, drawing large crowds of tourists and fans. The move to the studio then was viewed as a response to NBC’s Today, with its street-level locale in Rockefeller Center. CBS Mornings also broadcasts from a Times Square studio at the headquarters of parent company Paramount Global. The emphasis on morning show studio locales is indicative of the fiercely competitive landscape, as the shows have been profit centers for the news divisions. Disney has been undergoing cost cutting that saw layoffs at the news division last spring.

The new Disney headquarters will be 1.2 million square feet of offices and production facilities, with a distinctive green facade and a height of 22 stories, or 338 feet, according to architect Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

GMA averaged 3.15 million viewers for the most recent season, which ended last month. Today posted 2.82 million and CBS Mornings averaged 2.35 million. In the 25-54 demo, Today averaged 703,000, compared to 689,000 for GMA and 333,000 for CBS Mornings.
