‘Good Grief’ Trailer: Dan Levy Returns After ‘Schitt’s Creek’ With His Movie Directorial Debut

“Schitt’s Creek” co-creator, producer and star Dan Levy has released the trailer for his upcoming Netflix comedy-drama film, “Good Grief.”

“Good Grief” is the first project spearheaded by Levy since the end of “Schitt’s Creek” in 2020, although the actor has made recent film and television appearances in Disney’s “Haunted Mansion,” HBO’s “The Idol” and Netflix’s comedy drama series “Sex Education.” Notably, “Good Grief” will be Levy’s feature film debut as a director. It is also Levy’s first project under his Not A Real Production Company and Netflix.

The film follows Marc Dreyfus (Levy), who struggles to cope with the sudden death of his husband, Oliver (Luke Evans). Forced to face his grief, Dreyfus flies off to Paris with two of his closest friends, Sophie (Ruth Negga) and Thomas (Himesh Patel).

As Marc grapples with the death of his husband, he also reckons with the death of his mother, a grief he had kept repressed for a long time.

“Good Grief is a cautionary tale about friendship and loss and all the mess that comes with it when the truth is something you’ve evaded for most of your life,” Levy said in a statement. “It’s funny, it’s bittersweet, it’s a project that has helped me work through my own grief. And I hope it does the same for other people as well.

The film is produced by Levy, Megan Zehmer, Debra Hayward and Kate Fenske, with Stacey Snider and Caroline Levy serving as executive producers.

“Good Grief” premieres in select theaters Dec. 29 and on Netflix Jan. 5, 2024. Watch the trailer below.
