Good news for two of ABC’s veteran first responders: The network has handed early renewals to The Good Doctor (for Season 6) and The Rookie (for Season 5).

The Rookie, averaging 6.3 mil and a 0.8, in turn ranks fourth in both measures. The Nathan Fillion-led cop drama is set to air this spring a double-episode backdoor pilot for a spinoff that would star Niecy Nash (Claws) as Simone Clark, an older-than-typical FBI rookie.

The Good Doctor first bowed in September 2017, and stars Freddie Highmore as medical extraordinare Dr. Shaun Murphy. Hill Harper (as Dr. Marcus Andrews), Richard Schiff (as Dr. Aaron Glassman), Christina Chang (as Dr. Audrey Lim), Fiona Gubelmann (as Dr. Morgan Reznick), Will Yun Lee (as Dr. Alex Park), Paige Spara (as Lea Dilallo), Noah Galvin (as Dr. Asher Wolke) and Bria Samone Henderson (as Dr. Jordan Allen) co-star.

The Rookie, meanwhile, premiered in October 2018, and stars Fillion as the LAPD’s oldest rookie John Nolan. Rounding out the ensemble are Mekia Cox (as Nyla Harper), Alyssa Diaz (as Angela Lopez), Richard T. Jones (as Sergeant Wade Grey), Melissa O’Neil (as Lucy Chen), Eric Winter (as Tim Bradford), Jenna Dewan (as Bailey Nune) and Shawn Ashmore (as Wesley Evers).

Both dramas join previously renewed ABC series Abbott Elementary (Season 2), Grey’s Anatomy (Season 19) and Station 19 (Season 6). TVLine’s handy Renewal/Cancellation Scorecard has been thusly updated.
