“The Good Doctor” has proven to be a very strong performer in delayed viewing, rising 397% above its live+same day audience in adults 18-49 for a 2.98 rating this season across all platforms after 35 days of playback. In the same time frame, it also averaged 12.1 million viewers per episode thus far in Season 4.

This marks ABC’s first scripted renewal for the 2021-2022 season going into upfronts. Given the lingering effects of the pandemic on pilot season, Variety previously reported that broadcasters like ABC are largely expected to renew the majority of their current lineups rather than pick up new shows. “The Good Doctor” was predicted to return as are fellow ABC dramas “A Million Little Things,” “Big Sky,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Rebel,” “Station 19,” and “The Rookie.”
