Golfer Michelle Wie West took to Twitter on Friday to blast Rudy Giuliani for making sexist and misogynistic comments about her in a recent podcast. "What should be discussed is the elite skill level that women play at, not what we wear or look like," wrote the five-time Ladies Professional Golf Association (LGPA) Tour winner.

The former mayor of New York City made his remarks on Thursday during Steve Bannon’s show "War Room."Giuliani shared a story about Rush Limbaugh, who had died earlier that day. He recalled a charity tournament in which amateurs paid to play with professional golfers. His and Limbaugh’s group was paired with Wie West.“On the green is Michelle Wie, and she is getting ready to putt,” Giuliani said. “Now, Michelle Wie is gorgeous. She’s 6 feet. And she has a strange putting stance. She bends all the way over and her panties show. And the press was going crazy.”Giuliani thought the paparazzi were going after him and Limbaugh. However, they were reportedly ogling at the golfer’s underwear.“They were trying to take pictures of her panties. I said, ‘[Rush], it’s not me, it’s not you, it’s her panties.’”Giuliani ended his “funny story” by asking, “Is that okay to tell that joke?” To this, Bannon replied, “We already told it, so I don’t know.”

In her Twitter response, Wie West called Giuliani’s anecdote a “highly inappropriate story.”“What this person should have remembered from that day was the fact that I shot 64 and beat every male golfer in the field leading our team to victory,” Wie West wrote. “I shudder thinking he was smiling to my face and complimenting my game while objectifying me and referencing my ‘panties’ behind my back all day.”Wie West did not directly reference Giuliani, but she also addressed his comments on her putting stance.“My putting stance six years ago was designed to improve my putting stats (I ended up winning the U.S. Open that year), NOT as an invitation to look up my skirt!”

Various social media users took to Twitter to support Wie’s post.

The United States Golfing Association and the LGPA also tweeted in support of Wie West.
