Happy birthday, Kate Hudson! One of Hollywood’s most beloved bohemians turns 41 today, and she’s getting a lot of special shout-outs on social media. Our favorite? Goldie Hawn shared a makeup-free photo of Hudson to celebrate another circle around the sun for her daughter. A close-up of Hudson after a day on the water, the snapshot radiates joy — and the entire post is a sweet testament to the bond between this famous mother-daughter duo.

Hawn took to Instagram on Sunday to send a few well-wishes her daughter’s way. “Happy birthday to my only daughter @katehudson!!! I love you deeply and can’t imagine my life without you,” Hawn gushed. “You entered this world wide eyed and ready to roll. And look at you now! I’m so proud!” Accompanying Hawn’s message? The candid snapshot that appears to have caught Hudson mid-laugh. In the photo, her hair is wet and she’s wearing a bathing suit, along with several necklaces. One of the necklaces is an ode to Hudson’s three children (and Hawn’s grandchildren), spelling out their names: Ryder, Rani, Bing.
But arguably the most noticeable thing about the selfie is how much happiness Hudson emanates. Mama Hawn picked the perfect photo to reflect her daughter’s zest for life.

Of course, it goes without saying that Hudson is having to celebrate her birthday in quarantine (like so many of us right now). Over the past few weeks, she’s been giving fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what social distancing looks like for her. She’s been meeting Hawn for social-distanced-mother-daughter walks. She’s been honest about the homeschool struggle. She’s been working on new episodes of the podcast she shares with brother Oliver Hudson. And she’s even been sharpening a few existing skills.
On April 9, she took to Instagram to share a beautiful — and oh-so-fitting for the times — rendition of Kacey Musgraves’ hit “Rainbow.” In the video, Hudson plays the piano and belts out the hopeful song that, as she reveals in the caption, she learned in just one day.
So, she seems to be making pretty good use of her quarantine time, which tells us she probably has something special planned at home to commemorate turning 41. Happy birthday, Hudson!
