The couple dropped the surprise Friday morning via Hawn's Instagram account. Showing a photo of the two dressed up as Mr. and Mrs. Clause from Netflix's hit holiday flick, the words, "Next Year. The More The Merrier," are written along the bottom of the pic along with "Happy Holidays."
"A year later and I’m still ringing Santa’s jingle bells 🤶🏻 I couldn’t be happier to be working on @christmaschronicles again with Kurt Russell, my real life Santa 🎅🏼 @netflix 2020," she captioned the merry surprise.
The official "Christmas Chronicles" IG account announced the news too, telling fans:
"Here's some news that will bring you cheer, Santa & Mrs. Claus will be back next year! The Christmas Chronicles 2, on Netflix Holiday 2020."
What's the Plot?
For those that haven't yet seen the first "Christmas Chronicles," -- what are you waiting for?! -- Goldie Hawn makes an epic cameo at the end of the movie as it is revealed she is Mrs. Claus. The chemistry between the two was obviously awesome, and with the first photo reveal it seems Hawn will play a much bigger role in the sequel.
The first movie introduced audiences to siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce, who make a plan to capture Santa Claus after their father dies and they are demystified by Christmas. Obviously, the plan doesn't work out and they spend the night dealing with a chain of crazy events in an attempt to save Christmas.
Netflix has already laid out the plotline for the sequel, which will once again focus on the Pierce duo.
"In the sequel to 2018’s THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES, Kate Pierce — now a cynical teenager — is unexpectedly reunited with Santa Claus when a mysterious, magical troublemaker named Belsnickel threatens to destroy Christmas forever."
Director Chris Columbus, famous for "Home Alone," "Harry Potter" and "Mrs. Doubtfire," is taking the reigns for "The Christmas Chronicles 2" and spoke to PEOPLE about the great time they had shooting with Hawn and Russell.
"There’s a tremendous amount of respect there and a tremendous amount of love and trust, partially because they’ve been together for so long. They just get along beautifully.”
Fans Can't Wait
Everyone's excited that "The Christmas Chronicles 2" has been announced, but now the hard part is waiting until next year before we can experience another round of magic! Fans online immediately wished that Santa would have delivered the movie this year ... when we really needed it.
"Man!! I wish it was THIS Christmas!! Love this movie!!! All the way through was GREAT and my head 🤯 when Mrs Claus turned around at the end! I think my neighbors heard me screaming!!" one fan commented on Instagram.
"Got my gosh darn hopes up and it's not until 2020. That stinks," another wrote.
"Awfully bold of Netflix to assume that the world will still exist to enjoy it in December 2020. Whatever the outcome of the 2020 US elections are, I can only hope we'll all still be here at that time," someone else pointed out.
