SPOILER ALERT: The following story contains details from the Season 1 finale of The Golden Bachelor.

It’s official: The first-ever Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, is engaged! His wedding is imminent, on the heels of his surprise proposal to Theresa Nist, as news broke live in tonight’s season finale that The Golden Wedding will air live on ABC on January 4, 2024 at 8/7c.

More from Deadline

While Turner’s wedding will be the first presented as an ABC special in quite a while, it’s certainly not the first in Bachelor history. The first-ever Bachelorette, Trista Rehn, had that honor when she married Ryan Sutter, with that episode airing in 2003. While since divorced, Evan Bass and Carly Waddell were the latest couple to go that route back in 2017.

News of the latest live wedding episode of The Golden Bachelor came following other exciting news from host Jesse Palmer — that the show will be sending Gerry and Theresa to Italy for a romantic vacation. “We can use that as our honeymoon trip because we are going to get married as quickly as we can. Because at our age, we don’t have a lot of time to waste,” Turner said. “So as soon as we can put together a wedding plan, we’re getting married.”

It’s no surprise to see The Golden Bachelor receive continued focus from ABC, given the powerhouse performance that the show has put in for the network ever since its premiere episode, which set ratings records for ABC, also debuting as the highest-rated premiere on Hulu for any series in The Bachelor franchise.

The Bachelor shows are produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Up next for airing is Season 28 of the flagship series, following Joey Graziadei, the tennis pr still in pursuit of love after being dumped by The Bachelorette‘s Charity Lawson.
