Golden ticket to supporting local beer is here | Around the Brew Bend

"We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams."

In case you aren't familiar with that line, it's a famous quote from Willy Wonka in the movie classic, "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory."

And it's never been more true for us here at the Tallahassee Beer Society this week.

That's because we — the music makers — just got some news that we know you, the dreamers of dreams, have been anxiously waiting on: the status of the 2024 TLH Beer Society Membership Cards, which gives you perks at 70-plus local businesses across our area.

TLH Beer Society's golden ticket.
TLH Beer Society's golden ticket.

And we are happy to report that they HAVE arrived and will start going out in the mail (if you chose delivery), or headed to the Oyster City-Tallahassee taproom (if you chose pickup) soon!

More importantly, as promised, everyone who ordered one between when they first went on sale for Black Friday weekend — up until now — WILL have them in their hands in time for Christmas (if you're giving it as a present) and ready to use when all the deals become valid on Jan. 1, 2024.

Last year, our mission to promote the craft breweries, distilleries, and eateries of North Florida and South Georgia took a HUGE step forward with the 2nd-ever TLH Beer Society Membership Card.

Y'all bought, used, and promoted Vol. 2 — our "mixed tape" of Tallahassee's greatest sips (and eats) — more than we ever could've imagined.

In fact, your support helped us raise and donate a record $7,500 to the card's year-long benefactor, the Leon County Humane Society!

But our latest rendition — which is centered around a Golden Ticket theme in 2024 — promises even more surprises, more magic, more flavors to explore, and a lot more local businesses offering deals than ever before.

This 1-mm thick metal card is your ticket to unlocking exclusive perks (and opening a few bottles with its custom built-in bottle opener) at more than 70 area establishments and exploring some of the places helping craft our fantastic food and drink scene. Two things to note once yours arrives:

The card entitles you to unlimited uses of any of the perks from Jan. 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2024. But once the year ends, so do the deals. We release a new card and a new design each year, and you can start looking for the 2025 card around next Black Friday.

The card unlocks deals for the cardholder only. For instance, if you show the card at The Red Shed while you're there trying their award-winning BBQ that just won "2023 Best Of" in Tallahassee and you purchase food — which then gets you unlimited $5 draft beers — the deal applies to just the cardholder; your whole table won't get $5 beers like you do.

So for someone else in your group to also get the same deal, they would need their own card. Some of the local businesses on the card have let this slide the first 2 years, but the intention of being a "member" of the TLHBS is for the person who bought it and supported LCHS to use it to reap the rewards, and not by proxy.

We appreciate your understanding of this and you're welcome to email us if you have any other questions or need more clarification at: tlhbeersociety@gmail.com.

We would also like to point out that sales for the 2024 TLH Beer Society Membership Card are way, way, WAY ahead of last year — and that just means that before the calendar even turns from 2023 to 2024, this Golden Ticket to supporting local may very well be gone soon.

In fact, 81% of our total allotment is already sold, so if you haven't gotten one for yourself — or for a friend, family member or a loved one as a holiday present — you might wanna hurry to TLHBeerSociety.com and lock yours in!

And in our last column we told you we had added 30-plus deals to the 2024 card, upping the total number of perks from 45 in 2023 to 70+ in 2024. But we also told you that we were keeping it a secret as to who had been added and what those deals were.

Well, that secret is no more! All the deals are published and you can now view every business that is participating and their perk at tlhbeersociety.com.

That's it! That's all we've got for you this week, and we will return to our normal array of local beer news in future columns — including our final column for 2023 in 2 weeks: the TLHBS' annual end-of-the-year list of "The Top 10 Local Craft Beer Storylines of the Year."

As you well know, we've had some big things happen on our scene this year — and we can't wait to dive into that! (after we get these 2024 cards out to you, of course!)

Cheers and thanks for all your support, Tallahassee and surrounding areas!
