Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, and Dory the fish were among the biggest snubs at Monday morning's Golden Globes nominations.
Eastwood's Sully, which grossed more than $218 million worldwide, was shut out completely by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, meaning director Eastwood and star Hanks were left without expected nominations.
Scorsese's latest epic, the religious drama Silence was also blanked: the director, who has been nominated eight times previously by the HFPA, was left off the list of directing honorees, while star Andrew Garfield also missed out in the best actor category for his role. (But Garfield was nominated in that category for Hacksaw Ridge.)
Other surprising omissions: Finding Dory missed a best animated feature nod, Taraji P. Henson was ignored in the best actress category for Hidden Figures, and Michael Shannon was eschewed for Nocturnal Animals (his costar Aaron Taylor-Johnson was a surprise nominee).

Jackie has long been an awards season favorite, but Pablo Larraín’s biopic only scored one nomination (best actress in a drama for Natalie Portman) and missed out on nods for Larraín and the film's much-buzzed about score.
It was already announced that Meryl Streep will receive this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award, honoring an individual “who has made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment,” but Streep’s Florence Foster Jenkins added another four nominations, including best musical or comedy. Streep picked up a nod for best actress in a musical or comedy, and Hugh Grant was nominated for best actor. But it’s Simon Helberg’s surprising nomination for best supporting actor that stood out as a shocker.
Both Denzel Washington and Viola Davis scored expected acting nominations for their roles in Fences, but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association passed over the August Wilson film for best drama, best director (Washington), and best script.
Despite lots of critical buzz in the director and drama categories, Arrival only earned two nominations: best drama actress for Amy Adams and best score.
The only Hidden Figures actress nominated on Monday? Past winner Octavia Spencer, who landed a best supporting actress nom. Costar Janelle Monae was left off the list of honorees along with Henson.
Break out the chimichangas: After cleaning up at Sunday night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, Deadpool continued its reign, earning nods for best musical or comedy and best actor in a musical or comedy for star Ryan Reynolds.
Another shocker in the comedy category: Jonah Hill, who scored a best actor nod for War Dogs.
As far as pleasant surprises go, highlights include the musical gem Sing Street (for best musical or comedy, though not best song), Viggo Mortensen in Captain Fantastic (for best drama actor), and Hailee Steinfeld in The Edge of Seventeen (for best actress in a musical or comedy)
The 74th annual Golden Globes will air on NBC on Jan. 8, 2017, with Jimmy Fallon hosting. See the full list of nominations here.
