Congratulations are in order for all of this year’s Golden Globe-nominated feature films and television programs, but none more so than “Barbie” and “Succession.” On Monday morning, the incredibly popular titles earned a whopping nine mentions apiece, including respective ones for Best Comedy/Musical Film and Best TV Drama Series. Read on to learn more about their massive new achievements and those of several other lucky shows, movies, and celebs.

Barbenheimer battle continues
Right behind “Barbie” in the movie nominations ranking is Best Drama Film contender “Oppenheimer,” which famously hit theaters on the same July day as the comedy leader. They will face off in four categories: Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and the newly-minted Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

“Succession” sets record for most single-year TV nominations
After making a staggering 27 appearances on the 2023 Primetime Emmys ballot, the concluded HBO drama has doubled its lifetime Golden Globe nominations total in one go. Two-thirds of its new notices came in recognition of its male actors. The previous benchmark for TV bids was eight, set by limited series “The Thorn Birds” in 1984 and matched by continuing drama “L.A. Law” in 1990.

LGBTQ+ roles dominate Best Film Drama Actor category
As Gold Derby predicted, this year’s male drama lead lineup is the first to feature four LGBTQ+ characters. Actual LGBTQ+ actors Colman Domingo (“Rustin”) and Andrew Scott (“All of Us Strangers”) are joined by straight performers Bradley Cooper (“Maestro”) and Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”). Their roles include Civil Rights activist Bayard Rustin (Domingo) and musician Leonard Bernstein (Cooper).

Double bids for Bradley Cooper and seven others
Cooper’s lead acting nomination is accompanied by a directing one for the same film. Also included on this year’s list of dual contenders are writer-directors Greta Gerwig (“Barbie”), Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer”), Martin Scorsese (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), and Celine Song (“Past Lives”), as well as Best Original Song double dippers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt (“Barbie”) and format-jumping actress Emma Stone (film: “Poor Things”; TV: “The Curse”).

“The Bear” pulls the opposite of a sophomore slump
FX’s hottest comedy lost last year’s top honor to “Abbott Elementary,” but the two shows have swapped places in the nominations ranking on their second outings. While past Best Comedy Series winner “Ted Lasso” also underperformed, “The Bear” was showered with love, earning one notice in every possible acting category.

“The Crown” holds firm in farewell year
The Netflix historical drama now has an official shot at a record-tying third and final series win after prevailing in 2017 and 2021. Voters also did not waver in their admiration for cast members Imelda Staunton and Elizabeth Debicki and even threw a bone to lead actor Dominic West.
