Golden Globes 2020 Nominees Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Platt and More Celebrate Their Nods

The 2020 Golden Globe nominations are in — and the stars are celebrating the happy news!

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association voters announced their picks for the best in television and film on Monday. There was plenty of glitz and glamour during this year’s nominations, with A-listers including Tom Hanks, Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Laura Dern and more earning recognition.

After the nominations were announced, the stars couldn’t wait to share the happy news.

Taylor Swift, who earned her third Golden Globe nomination for her song “Beautiful Ghosts” from the upcoming film Cats, called the recognization “purrfect” in a heartfelt Instagram post.

“I woke up today to the news that Beautiful Ghosts is nominated for a Golden Globe – it’s so cool that one of the most fun, fulfilling creative experiences I’ve ever had is being honored in this way by the HFPA. I ended up spending many days on set watching the other performers do their scenes,” she wrote. “Watching the character Victoria, played by @frankiegoestohayward inspired me so much and Beautiful Ghosts was the result. Congrats to my co-writer and buddy 4 life Andrew Lloyd Webber. This is just purrfect.”

Jennifer Lopez said she feels honored to be recognized for her “difficult” role in Hustlers.

“I could not be more proud to be recognized by the HFPA! Ramona was a complicated character and it was an honor and challenge to bring her to life. Hustlers was a labor of love, sweat and perseverance that was written, directed, produced, edited and starred a group of badass women. I am proud and honored to represent them and this film.”

Emma Thompson dedicated her nomination for best actress for the film Late Night to her costar Mindy Kaling.

“I am thrilled beyond measure to have been nominated for one of my favourite roles ever,” she said in a statement. “I owe so much to Nisha Ganatra and EVERYTHING to the one and only Mindy Kaling!”

Living with Yourself‘s Paul Rudd said he is “grateful” for his nomination.

“What an honor to be nominated for a Golden Globe and I’m grateful to the HFPA. I’m humbled to be included in a group that’s so talented and respected.”

The Politician‘s Ben Platt was quick to celebrate his first-ever Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a television series, comedy or musical.

“I am beyond excited and honored to be nominated for my first ever Golden Globe along with our series!” he said in a statement. “Everyone in our Politician family has worked so hard on our show and done so with such love, so I’m very grateful that the HFPA has recognized us and I’m proud of my extraordinary ensemble.”

He even gave a sweet shoutout to longtime friend Beanie Feldstein, who nabbed her own nomination for best actress in a motion picture, comedy or musical for her role in Booksmart.

“Congratulations to all the other very deserving nominees (especially my best friend Beanie Feldstein)!!” he said.

Another first-time nominee, Kaitlyn Dever admitted she was in shock when she heard of her nod.

“Wow. I can’t believe this!!! Thank you to the HFPA, Golden Globes for your support and nominating me for my first Golden Globe. I feel so blessed to be recognized alongside such a talented group of women. To my fellow Unbelievable cast, and the extraordinary producers, congratulations! It was a team effort to bring Marie’s story to the forefront and do her justice. THANK YOU to everyone who put their trust in me to portray Marie. I’m incredibly honored and overwhelmed,” she said.

Kirsten Dunst joked that her nomination was the “best 5am news ever!!!!”

“I am so honored to be nominated along with the other incredible actresses in our category. Best 5AM news ever!!!!” she said of her best actress in a television comedy or musical nomination.

Sacha Baron Cohen took the time to reflect on his illustrious career, calling his nomination for the Netflix series The Spy an “honor.”

“Getting to play Jo March, one of the most inspiring characters in literature, still today, has been an honor. I am eternally grateful to Greta Gerwig for her guidance and partnership, and for her fierce perseverance that brought this incredible cast together and created an environment for us to become a real family and tell this very special story. My performance in this film belongs to Greta as much as it does myself and I share this recognition completely with her,” said Saoirse Ronan of her nomination in Little Women.

Russell Crowe said his nomination for his role in The Loudest Voice made him feel “young again.”

“The last time I got a Golden Globe nomination was 2005. My eldest boy was 1 year old and my youngest not even on the horizon. As my sons are now nearly 16 and 13 I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for making me feel young again,” he said. “Thanks to Blumhouse, Showtime, Stan and all the team involved. I was surrounded by a spectacular cast. My personal gratitude and deep affection go out to Naomi Watts, Sienna Miller, Annabelle Wallis, Aleksa Palladino, Seth MacFarlane, Simon McBurney and Josh Stamberg among others who made a complex and difficult job so much easier.”

“Just woke up to this exciting news and am incredibly honored. I am beyond grateful to the HFPA, and to be grouped with such insanely talented actresses,” said Awkwafina. “I grew up watching the Golden Globes every year, cheering for my favorite films and actors…it is surreal that I now get to go! Wait, I do get to go right?”

Parasite director Bong Joon Ho joked that his WhatsApp has been blowing up since he received nominations in the directing, screenplay and best foreign film categories.

“My WhatsApp is very busy today with the news about Parasite! I am so honored by the three nominations and thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for recognizing our film,” he said. “This couldn’t be possible without the excellent work by and wonderful collaboration with my actors, department heads and crew.”

The Crown‘s Peter Morgan commended the drama’s newest cast members for continuing the show’s awards season hot streak in season 3.

“Beyond thrilled – for the show of course, but in particular for our new cast,” he said. “We all knew how hard it would be to follow the previous gang – but they have done that and more. We could not be happier with the audience response around the world and thank the HFPA for this acknowledgment.”

Ricky Gervais is set to host the 77th Golden Globe Awards, which will air live from The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, Jan. 5 on NBC.
