'Golden Bachelor' recap: Iowan Gerry Turner meets 22 possible matches

Iowan Gerry Turner, who made his debut as the first-ever "Golden Bachelor" Thursday night, is showing that older age is all the rage. During the ABC reality dating franchise's first foray into the golden years, 22 senior women introduced themselves to the 72-year-old grandpa.

The hour of pure programming proved that all Hollywood needs is a little fresh blood from the Heartland.

From cheerleading to salsa (and chicken) dancing, each woman made a lasting impression on the widower during limo exits. According to a New York Times profile, Turner left Iowa shortly before the death of his late wife of 43 years, Toni.

Turner now lives on a lake in Indiana and is the second franchise lead from Iowa. He follows Arlington farmer Chris Soules, who helmed the classic version's 19th season in 2015.

"Every door that opened was like the best Christmas ever," Turner said halfway through the episode.
