Goodbyes can be gnarly, but even the Goldbergs have to let go.

“The Goldbergs,” the ABC sitcom that centers the lives of the Goldberg family in 1980s Pennsylvania, is ending with its current 10th season, according to a press release from ABC. The series finale is set to air May 3.

“We are so proud of the 10 years we were able to spend with ‘The Goldbergs,’” ABC Entertainment President Craig Erwich said in a statement. “This is an incredible team, and we’re so thankful for the joy and entertainment they brought to so many over this time. We look forward to celebrating their final chapter along with the fans in the weeks ahead.”

The show’s final season finds the Goldbergs “living back under the same roof,” with matriarch Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey) adjusting to her new role as a grandmother.

“It’s been an honor to be part of ‘The Goldbergs’ for the last decade. I’m really proud of what we accomplished with the show, and I’m so lucky to have had such a rewarding experience,” McLendon-Covey said in a statement. “Thanks to all our fans (the Goldnerds) for being so sweet and supportive. My heart is full. ... But I definitely hope I never see another pair of shoulder pads for the rest of my life.”

“The Goldbergs,” starring McLendon-Covey, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile and Hayley Orrantia, debuted in 2013 and went on to become ABC’s No. 2 comedy. The show also earned a People’s Choice Awards nomination for favorite new TV comedy in 2014.

The show also weathered its fair share of loss and controversy over its decade-long run, including the death of series regular George Segal in March 2021. The late actor played Albert "Pops" Solomon and was honored at the end of Season 8 with a touching 48-second video tribute.

The Goldbergs also had to say goodbye to cast member Jeff Garlin, who played the underwear-clad and boisterous patriarch Murray Goldberg, after the actor-comedian departed the show following accusations of on-set misconduct.

Garlin, who appeared on the “The Goldbergs” through the show’s ninth season, addressed rumors of his exit from the show in a December 2021 interview with Vanity Fair. Asserting that he hadn’t been fired from the series, Garlin didn’t specify what led to the investigations, but cited a "joke" he made to a stand-in on set "that was completely missed."

"It’s about me and my silliness on set. They don’t think it’s appropriate. I do. That’s where we’re at. I’ve not been fired because of it," Garlin told the outlet. "I need to do what I need to do to keep my energy up and do what I do. So, I don’t know what to say."
