“Gold Rush” star, Parker Schnabel, got a quick lesson in culture and technology when some local gold miners in Papa New Guinea mistook his production crew’s drone cameras for gold thieving robots!

The incident went down during filming of the latest season of Schnabel’s Discovery reality series, “Gold Rush: Parker’s Trail.”

The star’s travels took him to Papa New Guinea, and said that while scouting some B-roll using drones, the production crew caught the attention of the local gold mining community.

Apparently the miners had never seen drones before, and Schnabel said the locals thought the crew was trying to scout gold on land they didn’t own, and they came running.

Luckily, Schnabel says the production crew was able to prove they meant no harm, and the situation was de-escalated.

The 3rd season of “Gold Rush: Parker’s Trail” premieres April 5 at 9 PM on Discovery.
