‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ becomes the titan of the box office

Those Titans sell tickets.

Moviegoers on Friday turned out in force for the monster mash-up “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” which took in a whopping $37 million during its first week in theaters, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.

The Rebecca Hall-helmed big budget beastly buddy film, which The Post said has “a brain-busting plot,” opened in 3,861 theaters, and follows 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong.”

Following the newest monsterverse flick with a $5.5 million Friday box office take was “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.”

Finishing in third with nearly $4 million tickets sold Friday was the fourth installment in the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise, followed by “Dune: Part Two,” which sold another $3.6 million.

Friday’s fifth place finisher was “Immaculate,” which earned another $1.1 million in theaters.
