Godzilla vs Kong's timeline explains why King Kong is so much bigger now

Godzilla vs Kong's first official trailer raised plenty of questions when fans were given a glimpse of the two titans smacking each other around our puny world – questions like, 'Why is our favourite radioactive reptile now the bad buy?' and 'Holy shit, is that Mechagodzilla?'
Perhaps the first question to be asked, however, was regarding King Kong's colossal growth spurt – one that's miraculously allowed him to match Godzilla's 400-ft stature.
In Kong: Skull Island, the giant ape was just 104-ft tall, although it was pointed out that he was still growing. In other words, he was just a youngster in that film.

In 2019, Godzilla vs Kong welcomed the media onto its Australian set, which is where journalists got a glimpse of the movie's concept art. Among the visuals was a first look at the Titans going toe-to-toe, revealing Kong's increased size.
Speaking to ComicBook.com at the time, producer Alex Garcia explained how the 40 years between Skull Island and the events of Godzilla vs Kong gave the furry guy plenty of time to catch up with his scaly foe.
"Kong is bigger in this film. There's a line in Skull Island that he's still growing, so he's an adolescent in that film," said Garcia.
"Where we begin 40-something years later he is significantly larger, but he's still the Kong. He has a few tricks up his sleeve, just by virtue of being around in a modern world and things that he can use and use tactically that Godzilla can't."
"But he doesn't breathe fire or do anything we haven't seen him do before," he continued. "And obviously Godzilla is as powerful as we've ever seen him, so [Kong] has the odds stacked against him."
Revealing how much taller Kong actually is for the new film, he added: "We figured Kong could be 50, 60 feet taller. He's gotten bigger. Kong's got really long arms and Godzilla's got the short ones."
Garcia also shared some details about the beginning of the film and its setting, saying: "The movie opens on Skull Island, which has changed a lot in the 40-something years since we last saw it in Kong.
"When the movie first opens, we are witnessing the beginning of a really massive event, a massive mission that is being undertaken to stem this global threat."
Godzilla vs Kong is coming soon to the UK and will be released in cinemas and on HBO Max on March 26 in the US.
