Godzilla TV Series ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Releases First Trailer

Apple TV+ has released the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated Godzilla TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

The project stars the father-son duo of Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell (who play the same character at different ages), along with Anna Sawai, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski. The trailer also features John Goodman making a cameo appearance reprising his role from Kong: Skull Island.

The official description: “Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.”

The project is from Legendary Television and is co-developed and executive produced by Chris Black (Severance) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye). Matt Shakman (Game of Thrones) directs the first two episodes.

Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise began with 2014’s Godzilla, continued with 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. After this Apple TV+ series, the next film in the franchise is Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which is slated for release April 12 of next year. Godzilla rights holder Toho also has its own new Godzilla movie — Godzilla Minus One, which takes place in postwar Japan — that’s coming to North American theaters in December.

The 10-episode series premieres globally on Friday, Nov. 17, with two episodes, followed by one episode every Friday through Jan. 12.
