The Globe introduces new staff members, summer interns

Jul. 24—WORTHINGTON — The Globe is proud to announce several new staff additions to its downtown Worthington office this month, as well as introduce readers to its two summer interns who are writing stories and assisting staff with news gathering.

Skyler Jackson joined the Globe team on July 10 as a full-time reporter primarily covering business, economic development and sports. A native of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, he graduated from South Dakota State University in May with a degree in journalism. During his junior and senior years in college he served as sports editor of The Collegian, SDSU's student newspaper.

"Ever since I was a kid, I was very passionate about sports," Jackson shared. "I love talking about it, writing about it — just anything about it.

"I was never good at playing sports, so maybe writing about it is the next best thing," he added.

Jackson, who moved to Worthington earlier this month, has already written several byline stories on the Globe's news and sports pages. Contact him with business, housing and sports story ideas at

Erika Clubs started as The Globe's new multi-media sales consultant on July 17. A native of Harris, Iowa — she grew up just down the street from Globe Publisher Joni Harms — Clubs and her fiance, Dylan, live in Hartley, Iowa, with their nine-month-old son, Everett, and two dogs, Zoey and Akita.

Clubs' career has primarily been in healthcare. She is a certified nursing assistant at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and previously did sales and marketing for a local nursing home chain in Iowa.

"(That) actually drove me to go back to school (Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon) to get my business management degree," she said. Clubs will use her skills in sales, marketing and business in her new role at The Globe.

"I am looking forward to meeting everyone and really getting to know The Globe and the community it serves," she said. "I have a passion for helping people, so helping businesses with their advertising needs will be right up my alley!"

Stewart Chisham grew up an hour north of Worthington, in Marshall, and his mom now lives in Tracy and his dad in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. His first day at The Globe was Monday, and he will move to Worthington on Aug. 1.

Chisham graduated in December 2022 from Minnesota State University-Mankato with a degree in filmmaking and mass communication. The Globe is his first full-time job in journalism, where he will primarily cover public safety and politics, focusing on crimes, courts and trends. He has an interest in the whacky news and is highly skilled in video.

"I look to prove to people that truth can often be much stranger than fiction. Bringing that strange truth to life is what I'm here for," Chisham said.

Jase Arp, Luverne, has little more than a week left of his summer internship with The Globe before moving across the state to attend Winona State University in mid-August, where he plans to major in English writing, with a minor in creative writing.

Arp graduated from Luverne High School in 2022, and studied at Minnesota West Community & Technical College this past year. He came to The Globe with an interest in all areas of writing, and was assigned a special project — to feature local food trucks that are licensed to operate in Worthington. He learned about the people who work behind the window, their hopes and dreams and struggles to get to where they are today. He also found out what they serve, what their personal favorites are, and the foods deemed favorites by their customers.

Midway through his internship, Arp expressed interest in writing about sports, and Sports Editor Dominic Burns was quick to assign him to some game coverage, including soccer and baseball.

"I do think that being at The Globe, you find out whether journalism is a career you want or not," Arp shared. "If you have an interest in writing, it's definitely worth checking out to see if it's something you want to pursue.

"The community and diversity in Worthington is really special," he added. "Everyone I interviewed for the food truck series was amazing. I've heard their pain and seen them overcome it."

Claudia Williams, of Rushmore, began working at The Globe on June 1. A 2023 graduate of Worthington High School, she will attend Minnesota West Community & Technical College this fall to pursue general credits. Her plan is to transfer to South Dakota State University in Brookings, to pursue a degree in journalism or English, with a possible minor in sociology.

This summer, Williams is exploring the work of community journalism by job shadowing with Community Editor Kari Lucin and Editor Julie Buntjer. She has written several byline stories for The Globe in recent weeks, has helped format news briefs, learned to follow the Fifth District court calendar and has gained experience in Associated Press style in her writing.

"I think the best part about it is getting out of my comfort zone. I don't talk to a lot of people I don't know, but it was nice getting to know other people in the community," Williams said.

"I've always been interested in writing; I've always been decent at it. I've always been good at making friends and making connections — it just seems like a good fit in general."

Globe Publisher Joni Harms and Editor Julie Buntjer are excited to have our team back at full staff and look forward to providing readers with more content — both news and advertising — moving forward.

"We feel so fortunate to have on board this great group of people," Harms shared. "They are talented, energetic, eager to learn and, as a result, bring lots of excitement to our team.

"Our goal each and every day is to bring quality community content and help with marketing needs," she added. "I feel confident these people — along with our existing seasoned staff — have what it takes to continue to make that happen. It's a very exciting time and I'm so proud to be a part of it."
