Global Greens Farmers Market kicks off the season on Saturday with products from at least 27 refugee and immigrant farmers.

The farmers market from Lutheran Services in Iowa has a new location in 2023, moving to 1907 Carpenter Ave. in Des Moines, in the parking lot of the Polk County Public Health Department.

Shoppers can find a variety of certified naturally grown produce, such as kohlrabi, sugar snap peas, and turnips. The market also features international food vendors serving tamales, Peruvian food, African baked goods, Moroccan cookies, African sambusa, and boba tea.

Shoppers can use cash, credit cards, SNAP/EBT, and WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program checks. The market also supports Double Up Food Bucks, meaning those who use a SNAP EBT card will earn up to double in produce up to $10.

The market also offers CSA boxes in three sizes through October. Options include a weekly box delivered on Tuesdays for $531 through Sept. 19, a bi-weekly box for $279, or a fall box for $132 Sept. 26 through Oct. 17.
