The BStreetBand lost its Bruce Springsteen this week when frontman Glenn Stuart died from cancer at the age of 63.

The E Street Band tribute act announced the death of its lead singer with an online obituary that included condolences from drummer Max Weinberg, who plays with the real Springsteen.

“I am saddened by his death, and having performed with him just two weeks ago, am shocked by his passing,” Weinberg mourned.

“He mentioned to me he wasn’t feeling great and was a bit concerned that he wasn’t doing justice to Bruce’s material,” he added. “The opposite is true. He rocked those songs and by the big smile on his face, even that night when he must have been in the throes of his illness, I and the audience could tell he was where he wanted to be — onstage with his buddies playing and singing music he adored.”

Stuart died Wednesday, according to his New Jersey-based bandmates. The BStreetBand was slated to perform Friday night in Hoboken but postponed that show.

Stuart led his 44-year-old tribute act through nearly 6,000 performances, according to the BStreetBand’s website. That included pre-show gigs outside the Philadelphia Spectrum arena, MetLife Stadium and Prudential Center on nights when Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were performing at those venues.

Their work was appreciated by Springsteen fans including former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who invited then to rock his 2010 inauguration, according to NJ.com. They were also booked to play at one of former President Donald Trump’s 2017 inaugural celebrations, but followed The Boss’s lead once more by withdrawing from the show.

TheBStreetBand also counts funnyman Jon Stewart and Hard Rock International CEO Jim Allen as New Jersey natives who have attended their shows. Allen, who knew Stuart for nearly 30 years, expressed his regrets on the band’s website.

“Without his authentic presence, it will be hard to go forward, however Glenn would want us to,” he said. “Hard Rock will always be a home for the B-Street Band to play.”

Stuart died with his wife, son and daughter by his side, according to New Jersey’s 101.5. He had reportedly been battling lung cancer since 2020.
