Glen Powell is complimenting his Anyone But You costar Sydney Sweeney.

Powell, 35, and Sweeney, 26, play a pair of destination wedding attendees who pretend to be in love after a previous fling gone wrong in the new romantic comedy. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight about making the film in Australia, Powell commented on their onscreen spark.

"A great rom-com doesn't survive without great chemistry, and Sydney is the easiest person to have chemistry with," he told the outlet. "I mean, immediately, it was like we'd known each other forever, and I think anybody that's been on the set realizes I never get tired of talking to Sydney."

"We make each other laugh. She's awesome, obviously one of the most talented actresses we have," Powell said. "This movie has felt like a rom-com in itself because Sydney is very easy to pretend fall in love with."

Powell's split from ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris around the same time Anyone But You filmed in Australia last spring fueled rumors that he and Sweeney engaged in an offscreen romance. At the time, a source told PEOPLE that Powell and Sweeney, who is engaged to her fiancé Jonathan Davino, were simply “friends who met on set.”

Both costars have addressed those rumors: Powell recently told Men's Health "it felt disorienting and unfair," while Sweeney told Variety in August that she and Powell "don't really care."

Powell told ET that "ideas of love are swirling through your head while these big romantic moments are happening" while filming romantic comedies. "So, sometimes [it's] harder to differentiate between real life and fake life," he added.

Sweeney, for her part, told the outlet that audiences will "actually get to see the amount of fun that we all had making [Anyone But You]" once the film releases in theaters Dec. 22.

"We truly had an amazing experience together, and I really hope that that comes off and everyone can feel that; that love and friendship that was made on this film," Sweeney said.

An official synopsis for Anyone But You states that Bea (Sweeney) and Ben's (Powell) initial attraction to each other fades quickly "until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia."

"So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple," the synopsis reads.

The pair have remained fast friends and have joked with each other on social media in recent months: Sweeney joked that Powell is "just heating up everybody’s winter, huh?” in a comment on his November Instagram post displaying his sexy Men’s Health cover shoot.

Anyone But You is in theaters Dec. 22.
