We love seeing famous moms use their platforms to end stigmas and raise awareness. One of the latest examples: Gisele Bündchen has shared the joys and challenges of breastfeeding in an Instagram post. The model and mother of three, including husband Tom Brady’s son from a previous marriage, used her platform to bring focus to Breastfeeding Awareness Month.

While Bündchen and Brady are currently in the process of selling their $40 million mansion (complete with yoga studio!), Bündchen shared the post on Instagram, highlighting moms who have had difficulty breastfeeding and celebrating the connection she found with her children, Benjamin, born in 2009, and Vivian, born in 2012, because of it. “One of the most special moments I’ve shared with my kids was while breastfeeding,” Bündchen began her post, with a photo of the model and one of her children as she is breastfeeding.

One of the most special moments I’ve shared with my kids was while breastfeeding. That special look you get, that feeling of connection is unlike anything I have ever experienced. I love how #breastfeedingawarenessmonth shines a light on the importance of breastfeeding. Yes, in the beginning it can be difficult, it can hurt (the cracks, bleeding, engorgement), but no matter how challenging, I would not change that experience for anything in this world. I feel blessed that I was able to nourish them in this way. Congratulations to all mamas out there for the effort that we put in, the ones who breastfeed, and those who could not and have had heartbreaking moments trying to. I celebrate all of you!

She continued, “Yes, in the beginning it can be difficult, it can hurt (the cracks, bleeding, engorgement), but no matter how challenging, I would not change that experience for anything in this world.” This isn’t the first time Bündchen has used her platform to highlight breastfeeding. Back in 2010, Bündchen went a bit far on her comments by saying, “I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.”

The comments alienated mothers who either could not, or choose not to breastfeed. It seems like Bündchen has adjusted her language, however, continuing to say in her recent post, “Congratulations to all mamas out there for the effort that we put in, the ones who breastfeed, and those who could not and have had heartbreaking moments trying to.”
