‘Girls’ Star Lena Dunham Talks About Catching Flak for Weight Loss

Since bursting onto the scene with the hit HBO show Girls, Lena Dunham has caught flak from Internet trolls calling her overweight. Now, having lost weight, Dunham is dealing with negative backlash from some who had previously championed her positive body image. But Dunham had a really good reason for losing the weight, and it wasn’t to appease the body shapers.

Dunham recently spent 10 nights in the hospital over 2 stays, being treated for endometriosis. She has had to make changes in her life to better deal with the illness.

“I had to adapt some new, healthy lifestyle choices because I have endometriosis,” Dunham said, adding, “It’s chronic, and there’s ways you can manage it through diet and exercise.”

Dunham said that she’s been called a hypocrite since losing weight, but that she’s actually just trying to take care of her body so she can keep doing what she does. The fact that Dunham has now gotten it from both sides sheds new light on a very old problem.

“I was frustrated by it because it really was evidence, as a woman in Hollywood, you just can’t win,” Dunham said.
