An 8-year-old girl’s quick thinking helped keep her and her two-year-old sister safe after thieves stole their father’s SUV with them inside.

According to TMJ4, Adam Jorgenson and his daughters Charley, 8, and Autumn, 2, had been taking their car out for a wash on Sunday morning at the Kwik Trip in Oak Creek.

After completing the activity which the family would do frequently, Adam drove off but decided to park his car when he noticed that the water had not dried. He then came out of the vehicle to use a chamois to buff the car.

Due to it only being a quick stop, Adam left the car running with his daughters inside.

However, after stepping out of the car, Adam was asked for directions by someone in a purple Buick Encore that he noticed parking at a diesel fuel pump.

Before he could respond, the father heard screeches from his car’s tires.

“I turned around and saw the RX5 going very fast out of the parking lot, heading onto 27th Street,” Adam told TMJ4. “I quickly turned back around to the guys who had asked me for directions and I screamed at them saying, there are kids in the car you idiots.”

Meanwhile, Charley explained that the man who had stolen her father’s car asked her where the keys were.

“He asked me, where are the keys?” Charley told the outlet. “I was like, that’s a good thing that my dad has the keys. So I told him, my dad has the keys. Then, he told me to get out and I was like, what should I do? Should I run and be a scaredy cat or should I save my sister too so I said, what about Autumn?”

“That guy was trying to steal our car, I should do something,” She added. “I should try to kick him or defend myself and Autumn. But then, I was like, I should stay in my seat and do nothing. Stay here, do the questions but when I realized that dad had the key, I was like, he can’t do anything without the key.”

Meanwhile, the man ended up dumping the vehicle at a Batteries Plus Bulbs, leaving the kids in the car.

Thanks to Adam communicating with his wife who was tracking his phone in the SUV, police were able to locate the car with the kids inside.

Oak Creek Police Department revealed in a statement on Facebook that a 17-year-old male, a 20-year-old male and a 21-year-old male are in custody. “OCPD detectives will seek felony charges early this week,”  they added.

Adam told TMJ4 that he’s very proud that his daughter was able to think about herself and others, as well as come up with the best solutions to get out of the dangerous situation.
