Pennsylvania officials arrested a couple for allegedly abusing their 6-year-old daughter and leaving her in deplorable conditions, per authorities.

Pennsylvania State Police responded to a Brownsville, Pa. home regarding reports of an “unresponsive” child, the department said in a statement. The visit by law enforcement took place on Jan. 7, according to CBS News and The Herald Standard.

Following an investigation, authorities arrested Jacob William Weight, 37, and Mimi Ann Frost, 33, on Feb. 6, per the statement.

Responding officers allegedly found the home with dog feces, trash and urine all around, the statement said.

The other children in the house alleged to authorities that the 6-year-old child had been locked up in a dog cage, zip-tied and beaten with a broom on several occasions, per the statement.

Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said their investigation allegedly revealed the child had been "tortured," according to CBS News.

The child was allegedly malnourished with abrasions and open sores on her body, per a criminal complaint reviewed by The Herald Standard.

According to a report from the children's hospital where she was taken, she allegedly had a host of medical and dental issues and hadn't had pediatric care for years, per the complaint, The Herald Standard reported.

The child reportedly told a therapist that she was allegedly made to sleep in the dog cage every night and eat dog food, according to the complaint, per CBS News. Weight allegedly shot her legs with a BB gun, per the complaint.

Aubele alleged the child was “punished” if she tried to get out of the cage to try to find food, per CBS News.

“One of the worst parts about it is there were five other children in the house and 10 dogs and none of them were malnourished," Aubele said.

Weight and Frost are facing multiple charges including assault on a minor, corruption of minors, involuntary servitude, strangulation, false imprisonment and child endangerment, according to online court records.

As they were being escorted in handcuffs, Weight claimed he is “innocent” and denied the allegations, per CBS News and The Herald Standard. Frost reportedly did not make any comments.

They are being held at the Fayette County Prison without bail, per court records.

Attorney information for Weight was not available in court records; the public defender for Frost did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comments.
