Gilgo Beach Serial Killings: Who Were the Victims?

From the year 1996 to 2011, the remains of 11 people were discovered in Gilgo Beach. This area is located in Long Island, New York, United States. The perpetrators of these killings are infamously called LISK aka Long Island Serial Killer. Holistically, these incidents are known as the Gilgo Beach serial killings.

The victims of the murders were mostly sex workers who advertised themselves on Craigslist. Out of the 11 victims, the most infamous ones were called “The Gilgo Four”. It took years for officials to find a lead in these killings. However, this year, a 59-year-old New York architect named, Rex Heuermann, was arrested in connection to the murder of three out of the four aforementioned victims.

Who were “The Gilgo Four” in Gilgo Beach Serial Killings?

According to CNN, “The Gilgo Four” were Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Amber Costello, and Megan Waterman.

Melissa Barthelemy was last seen alive on July 12, 2009, in her basement apartment in the Bronx. At the time of her death, she was 24 years old. The night prior to her disappearance, she told her friend that she was going to meet a man. However, she added that she would return in the morning.

The last time Maureen Brainard-Barnes was seen alive was on July 9, 2007. She was 25 years old at the time of her death and the last person she spoke to was a friend in Connecticut.

Amber Costello was 27 years old at the time of her murder. She lived in Long Island, but unfortunately, was addicted to Heroin. To fuel her addiction, she did sex work. The last time she was seen alive was on September 2, 2010. She was leaving her home to meet a client. However, her corpse was discovered on December 13, 2010, near Gilgo Beach.

The fourth victim was 22-year-old Megan Waterman. She was last seen alive on June 6, 2010.
