Gilgo Beach Murders suspect Rex Heuermann is currently being held at the Suffolk County jail in New York. The case against him stems from the discovery of human remains along the South Shore in Long Island between 2010 and 2011. CNN reported that four victims were buried near each other off Ocean Parkway in Gilgo Beach. Several other women were identified as sex workers.

The outlet reported that authorities arrested Heuermann, an architectural consultant, on July 13, 2023. He had pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder. The charges stem from the murders of Melissa Barthelemy and Megan Waterman in 2009 and Amber Costello in 2010.

Moreover, prosecutors have revealed that he remains a prime suspect in Maureen Brainard-Barnes’ 2007 disappearance and murder. Authorities identified Barnes as the fourth Gilgo Beach victim. These four victims were dubbed the “Gilgo Four.”

Rex Heuermann update: When is the Gilgo Beach Murders suspect’s next court date?

Rex Heuermann, who remains the primary suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial killings, faces three counts of first-degree murder. As previously mentioned, he is currently in custody at the Suffolk County jail in New York. The 59-year-old previously appeared in court in September 2023 for a short status hearing on his upcoming trial.

According to ABC News, Heuermann’s next court appearance is on November 15, 2023. Police arrested him in July for the murders of three sex workers – Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. The alleged killer murdered all three victims between 2009 and 2010 and buried their bodies on Long Island.

Furthermore, the outlet reported that investigators linked Heuermann to the killings using DNA evidence. This DNA came from male hair collected from the burlap that the killer used to wrap Waterman’s body. Forensics matched this sample to a leftover pizza crust the suspect threw into a garbage can in January 2023. Prosecutors said that the pizza crust DNA matched the swab he provided after his arrest.
