Giants sign WR Jamison Crowder: 5 things to know

The New York Giants and general manager Joe Schoen continued adding to their stable of wide receivers on Thursday, officially signing Jamison Crowder.

Crowder has obvious experience in both New York and the NFC East, having previously played for the Washington Commanders and New York Jets. He spent last season with the Buffalo Bills.

Here are five quick things to know about Crowder.

Multi-sport athlete

Crowder is most well-known for his football prowess but it’s not the only sport he excelled in.

In addition to football, Crowder also ran track & field and played basketball in high school. He helped lead Monroe to a 2010 1A state basketball championship and was named Rocky River Conference Player of the Year that same year.

Did not cross paths with Daniel Jones at Duke

Although both Crowder and quarterback Daniel Jones attended Duke University, their paths did not cross in college.

Crowder attended Duke from 2011 through 2014, while Jones attended from 2015 through 2018.

Still very familiar with his new QB

Despite not attending Duke at the same time, Crowder and Jones are very familiar with one another.

The two began working out and training together during the offseason back in 2019 and that has continued to the present day.

“I’ve built a relationship with him, I text him from time to time and we worked out a little bit in the offseason,” Crowder said in 2019. “So that’s why I know … he has the potential to be a great quarterback in this league. It’s just going to be him getting that experience and just growing as a professional player.”

Long-time thorn in Giants' side

Crowder spent the first four seasons of his career in Washington and then three seasons across town with the New York Jets.

Over that span, Crowder saw the Giants frequently — during both the preseason and regular season.

In eight career regular season games against the Giants, Crowder hauled in 31 receptions for 485 yards and four touchdowns. The yardage is Crowder’s second-most against an NFL team and the four touchdowns are his most against any team.

He has also returned 17 punts for 198 yards against the Giants, the most against any team.

Asset on special teams

Crowder isn’t just a slot receiver. He’s also a very talented and dynamic special teams player who can return both punts and kicks, and has been named Special Teams Player of the Week several times.

The Giants certainly need players who also excel on special teams and Crowder fits that bill.
