Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t going anywhere in the near future. The two-time NBA MVP signed an extension with the Milwaukee Bucks that keeps him in the green and white up through the 2027-2028 season.

The extension includes three more years added to his contract for a whopping $186 million total. The Greek Freak will have the freedom to exercise a player option and explore free agency in the 2027-2028 season, but otherwise, this new contract keeps him in Milwaukee for the duration of his new teammate Damian Lillard’s deal.

Damian Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks at the end of September and immediately fortified a team that was already among the best in the Eastern Conference. Though the Bucks lost Jrue Holiday and Grayson Allen, they retained Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, Brook Lopez, Robin Lopez, and Jae Crowder. They also added Cameron Payne to the roster as a solid backup point guard.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s imminent future with the Milwaukee Bucks was up for discussion after they won the 2021 NBA Finals only to suffer back-to-back disappointing playoff exits in the subsequent seasons. He spoke with The New York Times in August about his commitment to the Bucks, his goal of playing 20 seasons in the NBA, and wanting to be a winner again over anything else.

“This is my team, and it’s going to forever be my team,” he said. “I don’t forget people that were there for me and allowed me to be great… But at the end of the day, being a winner, it’s over that goal. Winning a championship comes first. I don’t want to be 20 years on the same team and don’t win another championship.”

Giannis is an NBA Finals MVP, two-time regular season MVP, seven-time NBA All-Star, and NBA Defensive Player Of The Year all at the age of 28. The Milwaukee Bucks campaign for another championship will begin on Thursday (Oct. 26) at home against the Philadelphia 76ers.
