Danielle Pinnock is excited for what's to come in season 3 of Ghosts, which she promises is the "best" the cast has had "thus far."

"We are doing huge departures in what audiences expect from a broadcast comedy," the actress, 35, told PEOPLE at Essence's Black Women in Hollywood Awards on Thursday. "We are taking risks. I believe in my heart of hearts, this is our award winning season."

In terms of what's in store for her character Alberta Haynes, a flamboyant Prohibition-era jazz singer who died from drinking poisoned moonshine, Pinnock revealed that fans can expect things to heat up as the season progresses.

"Alberta may get a love interest," she teases. "It's been 100 years baby, we gotta dust the cobwebs off! The ghosts are in love and they're finding themselves."

She continues, "Sam [Rose Mclver] and Jay [Utkarsh Ambudkar] who are our leads — they are really bringing just life to our afterlife in a real way. I think people are gonna love this season. It's fabulous."

Season 1 of Ghosts aired six episodes in 2021. In the U.S. version of the paranormal sitcom, McIver plays lead Samantha, a journalist who buys an old home to convert into a bed and breakfast. But Samantha soon learns she's not alone in the house. It's already home to a list of spirits who haven't been seen or heard by the living until Samantha moves in.

With Ghosts now in its third season, the series has garnered critical acclaim and support from fans and celebrities alike.

Upon learning of the show's season 2 renewal in 2022, Mark Hamill expressed his excitement for the return of the "smart" and "whimsical."

"This IS a surprise to me (seems as though everything I like gets canceled), but a WONDERFUL surprise indeed," he tweeted in reply to the show's renewal announcement at the time. "[Ghosts] is a delight: smart, witty, whimsical, very funny with a BRILLIANT cast that is beyond perfection."

Hamill, 72, ended the tweet with a hashtag of congratulations on a well deserved renewal.

The Star Wars legend isn't the only one who's shared their love for the show.

Tara Reid, who's been frequently name-dropped by actor Asher Grodman's '90s stockbroker bro Trevor Lefkowitz, quote-tweeted the series after the pilot aired and even landed a role as a guest star on season 2 of Ghosts.

In a conversation with PEOPLE in February 2023, Grodman recalled the moment he saw Reid's tweet and ran to showrunners to get her on the show.

"We all geeked out," he continued. "And when I saw it, of course, part of me was like, 'Yes, this had to happen,' but another part of me was very much like, 'I can't believe the wild ride that this show has been on, out of the pandemic, of being utterly isolated and now we did this show, and people are watching this show and people are wanting to be on this show.'"
