The sequel to 2021's "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" is officially titled "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," and it's turning NYC into an icy tundra.

Everybody freeze!

The first trailer just arrived for the new Ghostbusters movie now officially titled Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and you will not be in criminal violation of the Environmental Protection Act by watching.

The teaser confirms that this sequel to 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife takes place in New York City, where the first two Ghostbusters films were set, and features a new threat in the form of a lethal supernatural temperature drop known as "the Death Chill." As Dan Aykroyd's veteran Ghostbuster Raymond Stantz explains, this force has the power to crack bones and turn veins into rivers of ice.

"And the last thing you see is your own tear ducts freezing up," Stantz continues (chillingly!).

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire finds the Spengler family returning to where it all started, the iconic New York City firehouse, to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who've developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

In addition to showing us images of summertime NYC transforming to a lethal winter wonderland, the teaser features returning franchise cast members Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Celeste O'Connor, Carrie Coon, Logan Kim, Paul Rudd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, and, of course, Aykroyd, who cowrote the original 1984 Ghostbusters.

The trailer also gives us our first look at Ghostbusters newbies Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt, whose character seems way too excited about the subzero mayhem.

The new film is directed by Gil Kenan and written by Kenan and Ghostbusters: Afterlife filmmaker Jason Reitman. Reitman, the son of the late Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, said at the 2021 New York Comic Con that he hoped Ghostbusters: Afterlife would "set the table" for additional sequels.

In June, 2022, as part of a "Ghostbusters Day" event marking the anniversary of the 1984 Ghostbusters, the director revealed that the franchise's next installment was in development and would see the franchise return to New York City.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire costars Annie Potts and the film is released March 29, 2024. Watch the movie's teaser trailer above.
