The gang is back together in the first trailer for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the second film in the new “Ghostbusters” franchise Jason Reitman helped resurrect but the fifth film since the unlikely franchise started in 1984.

Picking up after the events of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” the new film reunites the original Ghostbusters with the newer cast for an adventure that returns the slacker supernatural combatants back to New York City.

Here’s the official plot summary, courtesy of Sony:

In “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” was co-written and directed by Reitman, decades after his father, the late Ivan Reitman, launched the series with stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and the late Harold Ramis in the lead roles. Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson all returned for “Afterlife” to reprise their roles for the first time since “Ghostbusters II.” (Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson all appeared in 2016’s “Ghostbusters” reboot with Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, but as new characters.) Ramis’ character, Egon Spengler, also appeared via visual effects work. The 2021 hit focused on Egon’s family and introduced new characters played by Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace.

For the new film, Jason Reitman is again a co-writer but Gil Kenan, his longtime collaborator and the co-writer of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” took over directing duties. In addition to the numerous actors listed above, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” also features Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, and original “Ghostbusters” stars Annie Potts and William Atherton

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” is due out in theaters on March 22.
