‘Ghostbusters’ Co-Star Leslie Jones Ain’t Afraid Of No Bullies As She Returns To Twitter

UPDATED, Thursday, 1:32 PM: Ghostbusters co-star Leslie Jones, who dropped off of Twitter in disgust after being bullied with mean-spirited posts and was also a victim of fraudulent posts that used her name and bashed homosexuals, is back on the social media site today. She just posted:

The post may have hurt her spirit, but the incident didn’t hurt her social media growth. Her followers grew by over 100K in the last two days. She now has 298K followers, compared to 197K when the controversy erupted.

PREVIOUSLY, Tuesday, 8:29 AM: Leslie Jones, one of the stars of the new Ghostbusters, left Twitter last night after repeated bullying from racist and mean-spirited posters. The tweets on her page, she said, made her life “a personal hell.”

A new Twitter hashtag has arisen from it: #LoveForLeslieJ, but the hate-filled tweets on her race, her dead brother, the color of skin which used pictures of apes was too much for the actress. She dropped off the social medium, even though behind the scenes writer/director Paul Feig and Sony were able to get Twitter to suspend some of the accounts of some of the more hate-filled posters. Feig even tweeted out: “Any personal attacks against us are attacks against us all.”

Brie Larson, Judd Apatow, Josh Gad, Olivia Munn, John Boyega, Damon Wayans, Jr., Anna Kendrick, Margaret Cho, Kristin Davis and Jada Pinkett Smith have come out in support of Jones, but it didn’t stop the wildfire of belligerent posts.

John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakes) just posted: “Go through your process and hopefully you find peace. Don’t let them stop you!”

Apatow tweeted: “We love you Leslie Jones. The people who behave like that have to live with themselves. And that must be painful.”

Gad tweeted out: “do not let the trolls win. They are sad puny little maggots who bottom feed in their sad empty basements.”

Ghostbusters opened this weekend to $46M. The actress, who stole the movie with her role as the metro worker turned Ghostbuster, had 197K followers on her page prior to leaving and this AM now has 203K and climbing quickly.

In addition to the hate-filled comments and photos, someone was able to post a hate-filled message that looked like it came from Jones. This fraudulent Tweet was then was re-tweeted and others who were offended reacted to it with even more hate-filled comments:
