Ghost Ships Festival coming to Manitowoc in March will include the reveal of a major shipwreck discovery

MANITOWOC — A major shipwreck discovery in Lake Superior will be revealed during Manitowoc's newest fete, the Ghost Ships Festival.

The festival, organized by the Wisconsin Underwater Archeology Association, will be March 1-2 at the Inn on Maritime Bay in Manitowoc.

The Ghost Ships Festival was founded in 1999 in Milwaukee to celebrate, promote and experience maritime history through the ships that have been found throughout the Great Lakes.

The event will feature 3D tours of shipwrecks in the Great Lakes using virtual reality headsets. Live music and presentations by underwater archeologists, shipwreck hunters and documentary producers will also be included.

People will also find merchandise booths and exhibits from regional artists, musicians, authors, historians, underwater archeology programs, dive shops, dive charters and dive clubs.

Pre-registration tickets are $20 each for the full two-day event, or $25 at the door. Youth under 18 are admitted for free. Purchase tickets online at ghostshipsfestival.com. Attendees will also receive a $5 discount on admission to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum.

The festival is co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary, the Wisconsin Historical Society's Maritime Archeology program and the Wisconsin Maritime Museum.
