Watch an Exclusive Scene From the Sundance Breakout 'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl'

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is similar to The Fault in Our Stars in that it revolves around a teen girl with cancer. But, as seen in the clip above, this low-budget drama is no trend-riding knockoff. Starring Nick Offerman, Connie Britton, Olivia Cooke (the titular “Girl,” Rachel), and Thomas Mann, the film won big at this year’s Sundance Film Fest, coming home with both Jury and Audience awards. It also currently holds a near-impossible 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The above, exclusive scene is a major plot setup, showing Greg (Mann) as his emotionally mushy, cat-hugging parents (Offerman and Britton) break the news ever so delicately that his classmate has leukemia.

You can judge where it lands on your TFIOS scale when Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, also starring newcomer RJ Cyler as Earl, enters theaters starting June 12.
