Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist Share Their Vision for Their January Wedding: 'It's Going to be Spectacular' (Exclusive)

The couple got engaged on Thursday’s finale of ‘The Golden Bachelor’ — and announced they’ll say “I do” live on ABC next month

Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and his fiancée Theresa Nist only have a matter of weeks to plan their big day, but luckily, they have lots of help.

“We have daughters who are so involved,” Theresa, 70, tells PEOPLE in a joint interview with Gerry, 72. “My daughter, she's seen a million weddings and she is incredible. She's put together the vision board. She's asking me, ‘Do you like this? Do you like this?’ And I go, ‘Wow, okay, I don't even have to do this. This is awesome.’ She's handling it pretty much.”

Gerry happily handed over the reins to Theresa and her daughter Jen.

“I can just hear the joy in her voice when I talk to her and she's talking about whether it's a dress or a cake or flowers or whatever it is,” he says. “It makes me so happy that she's having this much of a good time with it. It's like, what could be more fun?”

So far, they’ve been in agreement about most decisions surrounding the wedding. “When she's thinking out loud and I'm thinking out loud, they're pretty much in harmony,” Gerry says. “I haven't seen anything that wouldn't work. It's going to be spectacular.”

One opinion Gerry does have about the special day: “He did tell me that he wants a blue suit,” Theresa says.

Thersea has an idea of what she wants her gown and veil to look like, as well as thoughts about “the look of the cake.” She picked out colors for flowers and wants a lot of them “because my daughter and I are both gardeners,” Theresa says. “I have abundant roses and gardens.”

The couple envisions long tables with a draped ceiling for the reception. “And originally our idea was to have these cypress trees like you see in Italy, but it's not going to happen at this location,” Theresa shares. “But it's just as spectacular, what is going to happen.”

They haven’t decided on a first dance song yet, but “we're suggesting a certain band,” Theresa says. “I'm not going to say who it is [because I’m] not sure if we would get it. But I really would love a choreographed dance.”

Gerry asked his son-in-laws to be his best men and Theresa’s daughter will be her maid of honor.

“She is so thrilled!” the financial services professional says. “All of my six grandsons will be involved and we want to have Henry as the ring bearer. And we're going to have my sisters — they don't know this — as flower girls. They're older. They should be thrilled with that.”

As for honeymoon plans, Gerry and Theresa plan to head to Italy thanks to a trip awarded to them by ABC during Thursday's After the Final Rose special. “It's the top of her list and it's become the top of mine,” the retired restaurateur says.

Gerry expects Theresa to take the lead when it comes to vacation planning, too.

“Theresa's a really good planner,” he gushes. “So when it comes to vacations, this is one thing I'm looking forward to is, we'll agree on a budget, she can plan and I just show up the first day.”

Theresa looks forward to where life with Gerry will bring her.

“I would say finding a home together and creating that home that everyone would want to come to — our entire family, our friends — and just exploring life together and having adventures, going on vacation together and having a fun, incredible, wonderful life,” she says. “We feel like we're going to have the best lives ever.”
