Gerry Turner finds 'Golden Bachelor' love after Iowan's tragedy and controversy on ABC

The Golden Bachelor is (finally) all grown up.

Gerry Turner, a former Iowan who now lives on a lake in Indiana, found his leading lady on the Nov. 30 episode. After Theresa met Gerry's family, which included his two doting daughters, things shifted.

And no, it definitely wasn't a Golden Bachelor in Paradise in Costa Rica. Gerry saw himself out after a tear-filled elimination with Leslie where many of this season’s women were seen cringing. After telling both women he loved them, Gerry told Leslie he had a change of plans — and they didn't include her.

“I’ve fallen in love with Theresa and that’s the direction I’m going to take,” Gerry told Leslie.

“Everything you told me the other night was a lie, everything you told me the other night was a complete and utter lie,” Leslie responded through tears.

Then, Leslie and Gerry had a confrontation on the famous "After the Final Rose" couch with host Jesse Palmer. While Leslie struggled to forgive Gerry for his confusing actions, they ended on OK terms.

After that, Gerry found his forever on a platform in Costa Rica. The couple had a happy ever after, even after bumps in the road, including driving down a California highway with no headlights earlier in the season.

Were Gerry and Theresa expected to end up together?

Gerry and Theresa bonded throughout the season for their shared losses of late spouses. Gerry lost his wife of 43 years and high school sweetheart Toni in 2017. Theresa lost her husband Bill.

During the season finale, Gerry said he knew that Theresa was the one "with every passing moment" during the pair's overnight dates. And Theresa said she knocked Gerry's boots off.

"As you get older, you see the genuine person before you," Gerry said.

And Gerry and Theresa received a romantic vacation to Italy. Gerry said they're getting married and Palmer announced they're hosting a live wedding special on Jan. 4.

“We weren’t off, you were off,” Leslie said.

“The kisses were nicer, the hugs were sweeter,” Gerry said.

“It’ll be 1000% or nothing,” Gerry said.
