Geralt returns for new “The Witcher” anime film, but no Henry Cavill or Liam Hemsworth

Doug Cockle, who originated the Geralt role in the video games, returns to the character in The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep alongside Anya Chalotra's Yennefer and Joey Batey's Jaskier.

Netflix is giving The Witcher fans another anime movie to follow 2021's Nightmare of the Wolf, and this time it's about good ol' Geralt of Rivia. However, it won't be Henry Cavill or even his successor, Liam Hemsworth, in the main role.

Instead, Doug Cockle, who originated Geralt in the Witcher video games, will return to voice the popular monster-slayer in the new anime, called The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. He'll join The Witcher series stars Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey as Yennefer and Jaskier, as well as Christina Wren (Man of Steel) voicing Essi Daven, who is a bard from author Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels.

"I am super excited to announce my return to the world of the Witcher voicing Geralt of Rivia once again, but this time in the upcoming animated feature The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep," Cockle said in a statement. "It's been an honor to work with Studio Mir and Netflix on this new animated film, and I'm thrilled to be able to share this next chapter of the White Wolf's journey with fans of the Witcher universe. Mire taedh aen stráede!"

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is an adaptation of Sapkowski's short story A Little Sacrifice and will arrive on Netflix in late 2024. The film sees Geralt hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village, where he finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople that threatens to erupt into all-out war.

Kang Hei Chul directs The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, which was written by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin.

Cavill portrayed Geralt for three seasons on Netflix's live-action The Witcher, but he has since departed the franchise over a snafu with DC. Cavill announced his return to play Superman on the big screen, but by the time the new leadership at DC set a revamped slate of movies that didn't involve the actor, Hemsworth had already been cast as his Geralt replacement. The Hunger Games actor is now set to debut as Geralt in The Witcher season 4.

Sirens of the Deep marks the latest expansion to the Witcher-verse. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf was the first anime film released by Netflix, with Theo James voicing Geralt's mentor Vesemir, played in live action by Kim Bodnia on The Witcher season 2.
