The cast of 'Young Sheldon' Season 7

Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy’s (Emily Osment) long-awaited Young Sheldon wedding finally happened—and Sheldon (Iain Armitage) wasn’t even there.

Picking up where last week’s episode left off, Thursday's episode, “A Proper Wedding and Skeletons in the Closet,” found Georgie and Mandy at the courthouse ready for their spur-of-the-moment nuptial. Mandy had the idea for a “spite wedding" with no family besides Connie (Annie Potts) and Dale (Craig T. Nelson) to punish her mother Audrey (Rachel Bay Jones) and her mother-in-law Mary (Zoe Perry) for baptizing baby CeCe without her consent and fighting over what church Georgie and Mandy would get married in and generally making the wedding all about themselves. But Connie knew that wasn’t actually the right choice, and secretly called Mary.

So the Coopers—minus Sheldon, who was at school—came rushing into the courthouse, followed closely by the McAllisters, because George Sr. (Lance Barber) called Jim (Will Sasso). (The dads becoming best buds has been one of the most delightful subplots of Young Sheldon’s final season.) There wasn’t an aisle to walk down in the cranky justice of the peace’s little office, so Jim walked Mandy through the doorway. And then Georgie and Mandy were pronounced husband and wife, in front of (most of) their immediate families. It was intimate, spontaneous, and a little bit chaotic—in other words, it was perfect for them.

Afterward, they went out to dinner at an Italian restaurant whose specialty is spaghetti by the bucket. Connie gave the newlyweds (and Cece) a heartfelt toast wishing them a lifetime of love and happiness. Then Sheldon finally arrived, along with Dr. Linklater (Ed Begley Jr.), who gave him a ride from college. And he was totally fine with getting there late.

“So, you and my brother got married and no one invited me,” Sheldon said to Mandy as he took a seat.

“Sorry,” she said. “It was kind of a last minute thing.”

“No, I was thanking you,” he said. “I hope that someday my sister won’t invite me to her wedding.”

“I won’t,” Missy (Raegan Revord) vowed.

After the wedding

Elsewhere in the episode, the police finally raided Connie’s gambling den, which led to her spending the weekend in jail. CeCe got caught between her grandmothers again, who each want to be the primary grandma and think the other is either low-class or stuck-up. It ended up with the Cooper and McAllister parents all sitting around the table and revealing family secrets, because no family is perfect.

And Georgie and Mandy went on a honeymoon to Dollywood, though in the episode they didn’t make it there. They spent the car ride talking about the pressing questions of their new life. Will Mandy take Georgie’s last name? (Maybe, but why doesn’t he take her last name?) Will CeCe be an only child? (Probably not, but Mandy doesn’t want to only have babies—she wants a career, too.) And should they get their own place? (Yes, but now that the gambling den is out of commission, their income is going to be curtailed—maybe it’s time for Georgie to go to work for Jim and start his journey into the tire business.) The last we saw of them, they were pulling over to the side of the road to make a sibling for CeCe.

The wedding brings us one step closer to the end of Young Sheldon, which is sad. But it also brings us one step closer to Georgie and Mandy’s spinoff, which is exciting. We can’t wait to see what the second half of the final season will bring.

Young Sheldon airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Season 7 is available to stream on Paramount+.
