Georgian police storm opposition party, arrest leader

Local media footage from inside the UNM's offices shows Melia barricaded inside a room with some of his supporters, while supporters clash with police.

The incident came just days after the prime minister, Giorgi Gakharia, resigned over disagreement within his administration over whether to take the prominent politician into custody.

Melia has dismissed the accusation against him as politically motivated.

A court in the capital Tbilisi ordered last week that he be taken into custody for allegedly failing to post bail.
