Georgia LB Natrez Patrick arrested for marijuana possession
Georgia linebacker Natrez Patrick was arrested for marijuana possession less than 48 hours before the Bulldogs’ game vs. Vanderbilt.
Patrick, who has started every game at inside linebacker in 2017 was arrested Thursday night on two misdemeanor charges. From Red and Black Sports:
According to the police report, Patrick was booked in the Athens-Clarke County jail at 11:37 p.m. last night and earlier on Friday morning at 12:25 a.m. posted bail after being charged with possessing less than an ounce of marijuana and a parking violation. His bail was $1,500.
Patrick has previously been arrested for pot possession while at Georgia. He was arrested with former Bulldog defensive lineman Chauncey Rivers in 2015. And last fall, he was initially investigated for smoking marijuana in a dorm room before it was concluded that he and a teammate were smoking black and mild cigars.
“Since November 2015, I have dedicated myself to moving forward. I’m blessed to have done that despite hurdles I’ve had to clear,” Patrick said in a statement in October of 2016. “This incident was simply another hurdle and I was confident I would successfully clear it. I’ll continue to move forward and I’m anxious to play on Saturday.”
Well, Patrick is now facing a potential four-game suspension per Georgia’s code of conduct. Here’s what Georgia’s athletic code of conduct says regarding a second drug offense.
The student-athlete will be suspended from competition during the athletic season for no less than 30 % of the total sport season. If either of the two offenses is a DUI, the competition suspension will be no less than 50% of the total sport season. The Director of Athletics and Head Sport Coach will review the case and determine whether the student-athlete is allowed to practice during the suspension.
