George Takei and Stephen Colbert Reenact the Iconic ‘Star Trek’ Red Alert

On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Thursday, George Takei stopped by to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.

Colbert, an admitted Trekker, asked Takei to participate in a classic red-alert scenario from the series, in which the camera would shake and the crew would lunge in unison as the alarm sounds. But first, Takei explained how those iconic scenes were shot.

“Well, we had a director out there, and he would say ‘left,’ and we would go like this,” Takei said while going through the motions.

Colbert must have listened closely, because he nailed red alert. And he walked away with a memory he’ll never forget.

“I can’t wait to go back in time and tell my childhood self I got to do that with you,” Colbert said.
