George Strait, Chris Stapleton team up for 2024 concert in Ames at Jack Trice Stadium

Country music legends George Strait and Chris Stapleton are coming to Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.

The stadium, which hasn't hosted a concert since 1999, will be a one-night only palace on May 25, 2024, for the King of Country and the "Traveller" himself in Stapleton. The pair will be joined by Grammy Award-winning band Little Big Town of "Boondocks" and "Wine, Beer, Whiskey" fame at the home of Iowa State University football.

The spring concert comes as Strait and Stapleton, who recently performed to a jam-packed crowd at Wells Fargo Arena in June, extend their massive stadium tour with nine new dates across the nation.

After a decade away from the Hawkeye State, Strait will return after he last appeared in Iowa in April 2014 during a date on "The Cowboy Rides Away Tour."

Strait, who has charted more No. 1 songs than any other artist in history, and eight-time Grammy Award winner Stapleton represent a generational blend of country music superstardom. Stapleton's highly anticipated new studio album "Higher," which features its popular lead single "White Horse," is slated for release on Nov. 10.

The last concert at Jack Trice Stadium took place on April 24, 1999, with Strait, Tim McGraw and the Chicks, along with Kenny Chesney, Jo Dee Messina, Mark Wills, Asleep At the Wheel and South Sixty-Five. Before that, the Rolling Stones played the stadium on Oct. 1, 1994 with Blind Melon opening.
