The CinemaCon audience was welcomed to Suburbicon, getting the first peek at a trailer for George Clooney's latest directorial project.
During Paramount's presentation, Clooney and his film's stars Matt Damon and Julianne Moore to introduce the new footage Tuesday in Las Vegas.
"We knocked over a few casinos here, haven't we?" said Clooney, to laughs from the audience. Clooney and his stars of course charmed the audience with plenty of jokes. Clooney asked "what was it like to be directed by Batman?" Damon said he'd almost forgotten that Clooney even played that role.
The film, set for release on Nov. 3, 2017, has a script by the Coen Brothers, and the first footage showed off their signature quirkiness paired with a dark and violent tone.
The first trailer shows Moore as a picturesque blonde housewife who is being asked questions by an investigator played by Oscar Isaac. The questions relate to a life insurance policy, and Isaac's character is suspicious about the death it involves.
Damon plays a bespectacled, buttoned-up man whose wife seems have to died in a crime, but there's more to the story than he's telling. The trailer gets progressively more violent, including a car bursting into flames while Damon's character rides off on a kid's tricycle.
