Set in the backyard greenery of Nashville, Tennessee, George Birge cracked a Bud Light and brought fans closer to his origin story, highlighting the importance of his Texas roots, how he keeps it easy on a day off and more.

“Growing up in Austin, country music is kind of just in your veins from the first parties that you go to, to riding in the truck or car with your mom or dad and it being on the radio,” the star explained in his installment of the Billboard presents Bud Light Backyard content series. “And I loved the way it made me feel and I loved the way that it brought people together. I knew that was always something that I wanted to do.”

Birge, who started playing guitar by 7th grade, found himself surrounded by music as he continued schooling — even starting a band by freshman year of high school. However, it was the landscape of his hometown that really set up his road to stardom as one half of the duo Waterloo Revival and eventual solo act.

“Austin was really special compared to most towns because everyone had a band,” he explained. “I was hooked from the first show that I played. I fell in love with country music because it tells stories. It makes people feel something.”

As he continues to build his discography with highlights, including his viral hit, ”Beer Beer, Truck Truck,” as well as his 2022 breakout hit, “Mind on You,” the rising star appreciates his live stage sets more than ever. “There is no quite feeling like stepping on stage,” he said of his performances. “It’s electric. Being able to connect with that audience that comes out to sing songs back with you.”

Fans 21 and older in age can catch Birge in his element when he and several country hitmakers perform as part of Billboard presents Bud Light Backyard, a two-day concert event at Tin Roof Nashville set amid CMA Fest. While the singer is scheduled to hit the stage, alongside Dasha and LOCASH on June 8, Alana Springsteen, Corey Kent and Dalton Dover will kick off festivities on June 7.

As for what Birge does during his days off, the star admitted that he “loves to keep it easy.” “That’s kind of my lifestyle, whether it’s in the backyard grilling, by the firepit, playing guitar,” he said. “When I’m not out playing shows, I like to be out with friends, out with family and I like to be drinking cold Bud Light. If that’s not a perfect day, I don’t know what is.”
